Ladies and gentlemen, gather ‘round! If you thought history was only confined to textbooks or the occasional documentary, think again! The stage has been set, the lights have dimmed, and the curtains have drawn back on what can only be described as the most electrifying musical sensation to hit the theater scene: 44: The Musical!
This isn’t just any musical; it’s a high-energy rollercoaster ride through the presidency of Barack Obama, blending comedy, music, and political savvy in a way that has audiences rolling in the aisles and reflecting on the absurdities of modern governance. With a sold-out run that’s already taken the nation by storm, this show is more than just a performance—it’s a full-blown cultural phenomenon.
A Masterpiece by a Master Organizer
Crafted by the brilliant mind of Eli Bauman, a former Obama campaign organizer and the creative force behind NBC’s “Maya & Marty,” 44 reimagines the presidency in a way that’s as entertaining as it is insightful. Bauman’s pen brings forth a sharp, satirical lens that captures the highs, lows, and downright ridiculous moments of Obama’s time in office. With humor as its backbone, this musical promises not just to entertain but to evoke thought and laughter long after the final curtain call.
Unforgettable Performances and a Star-Studded Cast

Let’s talk talent, shall we? The cast of 44 is nothing short of spectacular. T.J. Wilkins embodies Barack Obama with charisma and charm that makes you feel like you’re watching the man himself. Then there’s Shanice as Michelle Obama, whose powerful presence captivates and inspires.
This dynamic duo leads an all-star cast that includes the likes of Chad Doreck as Joe Biden, Larry Cedar as Mitch McConnell, and Marquell Edward Clayton as Brother Abe Lincoln — yes, you read that right. The show navigates the political landscape with finesse, featuring cameos from figures like Sarah Palin and Hillary Clinton, all portrayed through a lens of hilarity that is razor-sharp.
And let’s not forget the music! With the legendary House of Vibe, affectionately dubbed The Andrew Jackson Five, the show’s live band elevates every performance. From foot-tapping tunes to heart-wrenching ballads, Anthony "Brew" Brewster’s musical direction ensures you’ll leave the theater humming the catchy numbers while pondering the political punchlines.
Satire at Its Finest

In a time where political discourse can often feel like a circus, 44 serves as a brilliant reminder that humor can shine through the chaos. The musical numbers are a delightful blend of exaggerated personalities and biting commentary that showcases the absurdities we’ve all come to know and—dare we say—love about politics.
Whether it’s a catchy tune about healthcare debates or a dance number highlighting the ups and downs of campaign life, every moment is crafted to elicit laughter while reminding us of the challenges faced by our leaders.

After their phenomenal performance on the Sherri Shepherd Show, Shanice and T.J. Wilkins sat down with Boss XL Magazine to reflect on their experiences and share their thoughts on the impact of 44: The Musical.

Boss XL Mag: What was it like to be on the Sherri Shepherd Show?
Shanice: It was such a great honor. Being on the show was amazing, and performing "The One" from "44" with T.J. on that stage was unforgettable. The energy from the audience was incredible, and the standing ovation meant so much to us. I also really enjoyed my one-on-one interview with Sherri.
T.J. Wilkins: I was just happy to be there, standing next to Shanice and performing "The One" for the world to see. It was a proud moment for both of us. Being in the audience afterward and watching Shanice’s interview was also special. Hearing her share her journey, her marriage, and her experiences with "44" was inspiring. The entire experience was a huge honor.
Boss XL Mag: Portraying such iconic figures as Michelle and Barack Obama must be an incredible honor. How was it for you both to experience this from a theatrical standpoint, and how did your personal influences shape your portrayal?
Shanice: Taking on the role of Michelle Obama was beyond an honor — she’s been such a role model in my life. Playing Michelle felt personal because we share so much in common. As an African American woman, a wife, and a mother, I could tap into those shared experiences to bring authenticity to the role.
T.J. Wilkins: Playing Barack Obama was a dream come true. I remember when he was elected — I was 18, and it was the first time I could vote. Watching my great-grandmother witness his victory was unforgettable. To now portray him on stage feels like a full-circle moment.
Boss XL Mag: How do you think "44" resonates with audiences today?
T.J. Wilkins: In a polarized political climate, 44 helps us find common ground through laughter. It holds up a mirror to society and encourages people to reflect. It’s a reminder that we’re all part of the American story.
Shanice: Absolutely. I even invited a Republican friend who was skeptical at first. By the end, he was clapping and cheering. That’s the beauty of "44" — it brings people together.
Boss XL Mag: Where would you like to see the show perform next?
T.J. Wilkins: I’d love to see it in Atlanta and even the U.S. Virgin Islands. It’s a show that resonates with people from all backgrounds.
Shanice: D.C. and Atlanta are on my list, too. Honestly, I’d love to see "44" performed everywhere. The more people experience its message, the better.
