We had a chance to interview her on her journey as a publicist, where to start
Phoenix: How did your career begin?
Avery: I got started through internships and pushing my name through the ranks of the industry. I started interning at MBK Entertainment, RCA Records, RCA Gospel, ASCAP, BET and more.
Phoenix: What was your defining moment where you felt established and how did that make you feel?
Avery: My defining moment was when I was hired to work with Sunshine and Sachs client Tyler Perry for his Grand Opening of his studios 2019. At this time I saw all of my hard work go into play; I worked the red carpet so well I remember the Founder of Sunshine asked me if I do this often and just inquired about my experience because he liked the way I handled Tamron Hall and others.
Phoenix: What is most important when connecting and networking with a publicist?
Avery: The most important detail that's needed is understanding your niche audience before contacting a Publicist and actually understanding the proper planning strategy along with your Publicist to ensure you are actually relating to the public.
Phoenix: How do you know your business needs or is ready for public relations?
Avery: Business always should add a marketing plan to their mix so after marketing must come public relations, now that you know your audience. Basically knowing media professionals and garnering media attention on your own. That’s what I assist with.
Phoenix: Tell us about this event and how you became a speaker?
Avery: Like most events you put yourself out there. For the 3rd Bronx Summit of 2024, I really couldn’t miss it. I reached out to an amazing designer RareBreedBX to give me a referral to Kevin one of the organizers of Bronx Summit.
Phoenix : Why is this event important to you?
Avery: As a Bronxnite it’s very important that we share our stories so the youth can see we are skillful and capable of a prosperous life. Seeing our journey and allowing others to receive you is a blessing.
Phoenix: What are 3 pointers you would give up and coming creatives. Any words of inspiration?
Avery:
Do not give into preconceived thoughts of others aka projection let it go and or ignore it.
Push to the best of your ability regardless of what others know.
Business is beautiful, finance is honest, and networking is plentiful. Meaning love your business, be honest about your lifestyle and keep networking until certain doors open.
