Rising Above: The Inspiring Journey of Angelia Gay Bankston Overcoming Breast Cancer and Influencing the World

In a world that often seems to be filled with challenges and adversity, there are remarkable individuals who shine brightly, illuminating paths for others to follow. Angelia Gay Bankston is one such beacon of hope. As the owner of Angel’s Paradise Higher Learning Academy Inc., a dedicated educator, and a passionate advocate for families, she embodies resilience and strength, inspiring everyone around her to rise above their circumstances.

A Foundation Built on Love

Founded in 1968 in Atlanta’s Northwest section, Angel’s Paradise Higher Learning Academy has been a nurturing ground for the young minds of future leaders. Though the name may have evolved over the years, the core mission has remained steadfast: to cultivate the social, emotional, physical, intellectual, and creative development of children. From infants as young as six weeks to children up to twelve years old, Angelia’s academy is a sanctuary where every child is encouraged to reach their fullest potential.

Angelia’s commitment to her community extends beyond education. As the CEO of the Network of Family Services—a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization—she has tirelessly worked to support families through education and outreach. Since 1990, her organization has aimed to prevent abuse and neglect, promote healthy relationships, and build vital life skills. This multifaceted approach demonstrates her belief that strong families are the backbone of strong communities.

A Leader in the Community

With a Bachelor of Arts in Public Relations and Journalism from Georgia State University, Angelia has always been a trailblazer. Her involvement in various organizations, such as the Georgia United Child Care Consortium and the National Black Child Development Institute, reflects her dedication to improving child care and advocating for the needs of children and families. She has been recognized numerous times, including her induction into The Atlanta Business League Business Hall of Fame and accolades like the Success Against the Odds Award.

Despite her many achievements, Angelia has never lost sight of the importance of community service. She is a shining example of how one person can make a profound impact, using her voice and her platform to uplift others.

 Battling Cancer with Courage

In the face of personal adversity, Angelia’s spirit shone even brighter. In 2018, she was diagnosed with Stage 2 HER-2 positive breast cancer. Many would have faltered under such weighty news, but Angelia stood firm, leaning on her faith and the support of her loved ones. With God as her guiding light, she fought valiantly and completed her treatment.

Just as she thought she had won, cancer returned in 2020, but Angelia refused to be defeated. Her unwavering courage and determination saw her through yet another challenging battle, one that would have left many feeling hopeless. Instead, she emerged stronger and more resolved than ever.

 A Celebration of Strength

In 2021, Angelia felt a divine calling to honor not just her journey but the journeys of all cancer warriors. Thus, the "Hats Off to Survivors" event was born—a powerful celebration of strength, courage, and resilience. This gathering invites survivors of all cancers to come together with their support teams, fostering a sense of community and shared experience. The event not only recognizes these warriors but also provides essential resources, such as gift cards for food and medical needs and transportation to treatments throughout the year.

Angelia’s compassionate vision for this event is a testament to her character; she understands that the journey through illness can be isolating, and she seeks to unite survivors in a powerful show of love and support.

 A Family Woman

Beyond her professional accomplishments, Angelia is a devoted wife to Reginald and a loving mother to three beautiful adult children. She takes immense pride in her role as G-Ma to three grandchildren, cherishing every moment spent with her family. Her ability to balance her career, community service, and family life serves as an inspiration to many who strive to juggle multiple responsibilities while staying true to their passions.

Conclusion but Not the End

Angelia Gay Bankston’s journey is a profound reminder that challenges are a part of life, but they do not define us. Instead, it is our response to those challenges that shapes our legacy. Through her unwavering commitment to education, family support, and her fight against cancer, Angelia has become a symbol of hope and resilience.

As she continues to uplift others through her work and her events, she proves that even in the darkest of times, there is always a reason to rise, to fight, and to celebrate life. Angelia’s story is not just about overcoming adversity; it’s about transforming it into a source of strength for herself and for those around her. In her own words, “With love and faith, we can conquer anything.” And indeed, she is living proof of that truth.
